Our Story

Founded in 2008 in sunny San Diego, the San Diego Chinese Attorney Association (SDCAA) is committed to fostering a strong, supportive, and inclusive community for Chinese and Chinese American attorneys, law students, and legal professionals.

Since its inception, SDCAA has been dedicated to supporting professional growth, advancing legal careers, advocating for the community, strengthening connections, and promoting cultural understanding among its members and the broader legal community.

Today, SDCAA continues to provide a platform for networking, professional development, and community engagement for Chinese and Chinese American legal professionals across San Diego County.

Zhiming Wang, Esq.

President

Zhiming (David) Wang is the President and Founding Attorney of the Pacific Coast Trial Law Firm, APC.  Mr. Wang focuses exclusively on personal injury cases and is devoted to helping people who have been injured from accidents including auto accidents, bus accidents, truck accidents, wrongful death, slip and fall, product liability, and medical malpractice.  He is an aggressive advocate, civil litigator and a determined negotiator, having recovered over one hundred millions of dollars for his injured clients in the past ten years.   

Mr. Wang earned his Bachelor of Law Degree with high honors from Zhejiang University School of Law in 2008.  Mr. Wang earned his Masters of Law Degree with summa cum laude from Thomas Jefferson School of Law in 2009.

Ms. Ren graduated from the University of San Diego School of Law magna cum laude and Order of the Coif. Before law school, she worked in the food and biotech industry and has a Master of Science degree in life science. 

Her practice spans business litigation, business transactions, intellectual property protection and litigation, IP licensing, regulatory compliance for dietary supplements and consumer products, and advertising law. She takes pride in standing alongside her clients, understanding their businesses and needs, and guiding them through complex legal challenges with practical, results-driven advice.

Ms. Ren has experience working in one of the largest law firms in the nation, where she represented both Fortune 500 and startups in various high-stake commercial and IP litigation matters and transactions. She had helped many clients successfully enforce their IP rights against competitors selling counterfeit, knockoff, or infringing products.  Additionally, she served as “outside general counsel” for her small to mid-size business clients. She helped them with their various legal needs. With her science background and research experience in an FDA laboratory, she particularly enjoys working with her clients regarding the FDA, FTC, and EPA regulatory compliance matters. 

An active member of the San Diego Chinese Attorneys Association since law school, Ms. Ren is passionate about giving back to the community through her legal expertise.

Outside of work, she loves watching her school-age children play different kinds of sports. Fun fact: Ms. Ren is a big theme park fan. You can ask her where she had her wedding. (Hint: Mickey and Minnie were her wedding guests!)

Lianlian Wu, Esq.

Treasury

Lianlian Wu, Esq., is a Board Member and the treasury of the SDCAA. As Special Counsel at Procopio, she focuses on construction litigation, government contracts, intellectual property (trademarks, patents, Hatch-Waxman/ANDA litigation), and corporate and commercial litigation, with expertise in cross-border matters. Admitted in California and fluent in Mandarin, she has represented foreign pharmaceutical companies in Hatch-Waxman Act/ANDA litigation, securing early dismissal for a Chinese company in a patent infringement case. She also successfully confirmed foreign arbitration awards into U.S. federal court judgments for a Chinese trading company, obtained a $2.2 million verdict for a plastics recycling manufacturer against its former CEO, and a $4.5 million verdict in construction litigation involving a resort hotel. Additionally, she has represented a Chinese metal company in multi-million loan transactions and a multinational Chinese-headquartered company in U.S. export control compliance. Recognized as Best Lawyers® Ones to Watch in Commercial Litigation from 2022 to 2025, Lianlian holds a JD from California Western School of Law (magna cum laude, 2015), an MA from the University of Wisconsin at Madison (2010), and a BA from Capital Normal University in Beijing (2008). She was also an exchange student at Hiroshima University in Japan in 2006. Lianlian has shared her expertise as a co-presenter and author on topics such as global sanctions, export controls, serving China-based defendants in cross-border litigation, and foreign arbitration awards. She is actively involved in the San Diego Chinese Attorneys Association and serves as a Trustee/Translator for the Hometown Education Foundation.

Attorney Qin Li is qualified as a lawyer in China and California, USA, and is also a certified notary public in California. For the past 10 years, he has focused on international legal matters, gaining a deep understanding of both Chinese law and common law. He has published several professional books introducing common law through renowned publishers such as China Legal Publishing House, Law Press, and Guangming Daily Press. Li Qin is also a frequent commentator for media outlets like Beijing News, Caijing Magazine, and Global Times, where he provides insights on international economic and investment issues.

Qin Li holds a Master of Laws degree from Tsinghua University School of Law and has participated in academic exchange programs at the University of Geneva Law School in Switzerland and Duke University Law School in the United States. Yi-Hung Chung, Esq

Yi-Hung Chung is a California attorney who practiced primarily in Family Law and Tax/Estate Planning in San Diego county. He has experience in military divorce, high asset (multi-million) divorce, and child support/child custody cases. He also has experience in Tax/Estate planning, and he earns his master of taxation from Golden Gate University in addition to his JD from Thomas Jefferson School of Law. He was a member of ADR ("Alternative Dispute Resolution) while he was in law school, and he is trained and taught to promote alternative dispute resolution on all issues in the divorce matters.

Yan Gao served as the President of SDCAA during 2023~2025. She is a seasoned attorney licensed in both California and China, with degrees from China University of Political Science & Law and Tulane Law School. With years of experience at major law firms, she has built a strong reputation in handling business immigration cases. Her law firm has successfully assisted hundreds of international entrepreneurs with EB-5, L-1, EB-1C, O-1, and EB-1A cases, as well as H-1B, PERM, and other business immigration matters, achieving a high success rate. Serving clients across industries such as biotech, real estate, international trade, education and blockchain, her firm is dedicated to providing strategic, high-quality legal solutions to help businesses and individuals navigate complex immigration and corporate challenges.

Aaron Li served as the President of SDCAA during 2016-2017.

Aaron Li is a tax attorney with Hone Maxwell LLP, focusing on international tax planning and controversy for high-net-worth individuals and small to mid-sized cross-border corporate clients.

Aaron holds a degree in Economics from the University of California, Riverside, and a JD and LL.M in Taxation from the University of San Diego School of Law.

Aaron Li is serving as a board member of the San Diego Chinese Attorneys Association. During his free time, he enjoys hiking, biking, and pickleball with his wife and son.

Chenyang Rickard is an experienced estate planning attorney licensed in California and among the first Mandarin-speaking attorneys in the state to focus on estate planning. She possesses in-depth knowledge of U.S. estate and gift tax laws, with expertise spanning revocable and irrevocable trusts, probate, asset protection, cross-border and pre-immigration estate planning, Medi-Cal planning, and prenuptial/postnuptial agreements.


Driven by a passion for serving her clients, Ms. Rickard is committed to addressing each client’s unique needs. Integrity and honesty are the cornerstones of her practice. She is dedicated to designing customized estate plans and delivering exceptional legal services. As a frequent speaker on a range of estate planning topics, she is well-regarded for her ability to clearly communicate complex legal concepts.


Ms. Rickard is admitted to practice before the Supreme Court of California. In addition to her Juris Doctor (J.D.), she holds a master’s degree in industrial management and a bachelor’s degree in civil engineering.

Before beginning her legal career, Ms. Rickard worked as a television reporter for Dalian TV in China.

Haiyan Tang, Esq.

Dr. Haiyan Tang is the managing partner and chief representative of Quinn Emanuel’s Shanghai office, with a distinguished record in high-stakes cross-border litigation, arbitration, and government enforcement. A Yale-trained neuroscientist-turned-litigator, Dr. Tang is widely recognized for her expertise in intellectual property disputes, trade secret litigation, complex commercial cases, and international arbitration. She has represented multinational corporations, leading technology companies, private equity funds, and high-net-worth individuals across the U.S., China, and beyond. Her cases span diverse industries and technologies, including biotech, pharmaceuticals, semiconductors, and software. She is also an appointed arbitrator with the China International Economic and Trade Arbitration Commission (CIETAC), the Shanghai International Arbitration Center (SHIAC), and the Hong Kong International Arbitration Centre (HKIAC).

Beyond litigation, Dr. Tang is a top advisor on U.S. government investigations and compliance matters involving the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), the Department of Justice (DOJ), and the Food and Drug Administration (FDA). She has led numerous government and internal investigations and developed compliance programs for major companies in the healthcare and tech sectors. Her prior roles include Chief Legal & Compliance Officer of a top healthcare-focused private equity fund and Acting Regional Compliance Director at a global biopharmaceutical company. She is a frequent speaker in both English and Chinese and has been recognized by Chambers, Legal 500, and Global Investigations Review among the world’s leading practitioners. Dr. Tang is admitted to the California Bar and the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office.

Experienced US Patent Attorney with a demonstrated history of working in Pharmaceutical, Biotechnology, and Life Sciences, including gene therapy, CAR-T, TCR-T cell therapy, and ADC.

Jiaye Zhou, Esq.

Jiaye Zhou is a Deputy Attorney General with the California Department of Justice, Office of Attorney General, Correctional Law Section.  In May 2023, she graduated from the University of San Diego School of Law cum laude, where she received Pro Bono Recognition with High Distinction and the CALI award for achieving the highest score in her International Asia-Pacific Commercial Arbitration Class.  During law school, Jiaye completed judicial externships with Chief Judge Larry Alan Burns of the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of California and with Chief Justice Judith McConnell of the California Court of Appeal, Fourth District, Division One.  Beyond the law, Jiaye is multilingual--fluent in Mandarin and conversational in Japanese--and is always up for a challenge, whether in the courtroom, on the jiu-jitsu mat, or on a dance floor!
